On Saturday 22nd November the students from MEPP and the students from the Master in European Studies visited Flanders Fields. With the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I a very large group of 70 students participated. In the morning the completely renewed museum was visited and in the afternoon we did a Battle Field Tour by Bus. This tour took us to the vast fields of military cemeteries (the British Tyne Cot cemetery and the German Langemarck cemetery), to the renowned Essex site (where John McCrae wrote his famous poem ‘In Flanders Fields”) and to one of the only remaining authentic trenches. We closed the day with a visit to the brewery of the world’s best beer: Westvleteren. The day was a great success and will be repeated again next year.
