Obituary notice em. prof. dr. Frank Delmartino

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that our colleague em. prof. dr. Frank Delmartino has passed away on Sunday, 21 June 2015.  For many of us,  students and colleagues alike, professor Delmartino was a friend or father figure, as he stood out as a warm and caring person.

Professor Delmartino was the founding father of political science research on European Integration at our university. He laid the foundations of much of our faculty's passed and current research in this domain.

Together with Vice-Rector professor Malfliet he founded the Institute for European Policy, the predecessor of the IIEB and LINES. For many years he directed the Master of European Politics and Policies programme and many generations of MEPP alumni will remember him as an enthusiastic scholar of European Integration and a warm-hearted mentor with a keen interest in the personal academic development of his students.

Professor Delmartino was active in many domains. As Advisor to the Rector on Internationalisation, he put his early formation as a Public Administrationist into practice. His international experience, reputation and network were truly impressive.

We grieve the loss of our much respected colleague and teacher. On behalf of our Faculty, we would like to express our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

A book of condolences for students, family and colleagues can be found in the entrance hall of the Faculty of Social Sciences until Friday June 26. The funeral will be held on Saturday June 27, 2015 at 10 am in the Heilig-Hartparochiekerk, Diestsesteenweg in Kessel-Lo (Blauwput).
